I have the height set at 0.8mm from "0". It can go up as much as 6mm. This puts it at near min.The 501-II has a recommended vertical tracking force range of between 1.4g and 1.9g. You could experiment with different settings within these parameters. It is kind of an odd bird. super-stiff suspension that likes a relatively low tracking force.
Tracking weight at 1-1/4 grams, anti skate at 1-1/4.
I am installing a Sumiko headshell in lieu of the stk Technics. I figured as long as everything is getting re-aligned I should get some input. I see on one of your other threads you run the extra weight. I have never had any tracking or skipping issues, ever. Is the added weight for sound or tracking?
FYI: The table has the KAB Cardas re-wire and RCA adapter plate. I believe he stuffs the arm with a light amount of cotton also.
Thanks, John
This cartridge does seem to 'like' heavier arms. You could try mass-loading the headshell end. And the Sumiko headshell is a good one to try. If you have the HFN001 test record you can use the arm/cartridge resonance tracks as a reference for your 'mass adjustments'. When adding mass I tend to shoot for a arm/cartridge system resonance happening at 9hz. 9-10.
