Problem with my Rose 150 b

I’m having a connectivity issue with my 150 and my iPad which I use to control the Rose. I can be playing music using the Rose App and just start losing the sound which is intermittent and comes and goes. I have the Rose connected to my AT&T router with an AQ pearl ethernet cable that is about 8’ long. I stream mainly Tidal although it happens when using Quobuz also. I have tried unplugging the 150 and restarting it also unplugging the router and rebooting it too. I haven’t reached out to Hifi Rose yet . Anyone have any thoughts. When this thing is working the sound is really nice. One other thing is that I have AT&T fiber which has 1000mbs speed.

Sorry for jumping off topic, but interested in what other owners have found to be their preferred digital filter/upsampling settings?

I realize this is an old thread but I’ve been going through a similar issue on and off for about 9 months.

I use a Roon Nucleus to stream Tidal through a Rose 150b.

If I choose ethernet as the input to the Rose, eventually I get drops and then skips. I can restart this, reboot that, factory reset it, etc. to get it running for a while, but eventually it always begins dropping.

Whats interesting is that when I connect the Roon to the Rose via a USB cable, and switch from Ethernet to USB input on the Rose, I have never had a single drop. Its only symptomatic when using ethernet as the input (and always when using ethernet as the input)

For context I have some experience with networking so I have tried a bunch of tests:

switching ethernet cables

trying different ethernet switches

using my internet router’s LAN port instead of a switch

Connecting my Rose directly to my internet router and streaming Tidal directly from the Rose (bypassing the Roon)

**Every single test resulted in drops.

The Roon diags show theres a buffer overflow ocuring on the Rose when the drops occur. I dont think that should happen when its only streaming from one source,

My ultimate hunch is that I have a bad network card on the Rose, or perhaps theres a firmware issue. Whenever I do a factory reset on the Rose it immediately restores consistent streaming for a while, then eventually it drops.

The higher res music (>96k) is much more symptomatic.

Interestingly I installed the system in November 2023 and this did not begin occurring until around April of 2024. So firmware was a suspect.

The only test I havent run is using a different DACm so I am now going to borrow a different Rose to swap it in and see what happens.

For anybody that actually read through all of that - thanks. And if you’ve encountered anything similar and fixed it - any help would be much appreciated :)

inthesticks,

I have much the same issues that you are describing, my RS150B starts dropping and skipping songs if I try to stream either Tidal or RoseRadio (Radio Paradise - Mellow Mix) directly through the RS150B.  This happens whether I am using a wired connection (tried 3 different cables and 2 different network switches) or WiFi, with access point in the same room.  The WiFi seems to be more stable initially but eventually starts dropping songs and/or skipping songs without playing more than a few bars.  However, if I stream either Tida or Radio Paradise through my Roon Nucleus One through the RS150B via eithernet or WiFi, it seems to work fine (usually).  I've checked network switches and there are no errors showing, so it appears to be an internal issue with the RS150B.  I did take my RS520 and swap it out with the RS150B and it works flawlessly through the same network connections.  I suspect that the issue is with buffer issues within the RS150B, but I cannot prove it.

I'm sorry that I don't have a fix for you, I haven't found one for my own "faulty" RS150B.
