Preamp for Luxman MQ-38u

Recently picked up Demo Luxman MQ-38u, which has can used be as Integrate and power amp as well, heard with CL-38 it had pleasant sound clearer , without CL-38u, the MQ-38u it sounded thick and warm, CL-38u  costs USD3,000
Looking for Preamp around USD1,000, whether Solid state will be good match?
