After listening for a while, I noticed how nice and rich the tone is, it is not thin at all, the tweeters are not fatiguing. These are an amazing speaker, I wish they were available when I was first looking for speakers.
PMC Twenty5.22i
Well I received the Twenty5.22i speakers today, and yes they paired lovely with the Sugden IA-4 amp. Effortless to drive these speakers with a good Class A amp. The clarity and articulation and annunciation is so clean and fast. The bass is perfect, not boomy very nice. This was a great choice.
My question is “My apartment living room ceiling is 8’ high, 16’ deep, width is 14’. There is another room, the kitchen, that is open to the living room and is 15’ long. Will the pmc Twenty5.22i.22i speaker with its 39hz frequency response sound okay in my space?” see response below from Perplexity AI. PERPLEXITY AI ANSWER - The PMC twenty5.22i speakers have a frequency response down to 39Hz and are designed for larger spaces. Your living room and open kitchen space, combined, have dimensions approximately 8’ high by 31’ (16’ + 15’) deep and 14’ wide, which is a moderate to large listening area. The 22i model, featuring a 6.5-inch bass driver with Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, delivers clean and powerful low-end performance that should fill your space well. Its sensitivity rating is 89dB with an 8-ohm impedance, and it recommends an amplifier power range of 15-200W for optimal performance. The 39Hz low-frequency limit means it will reproduce bass well, though very deep bass below 39Hz might be less pronounced. Since your ceiling height is 8 feet and the room is relatively long and open to the kitchen, the speaker’s detailed highs and powerful bass should work fine acoustically in your environment. If you plan to use these speakers mainly for music or home theater in that room size, the PMC twenty5.22i should sound very good and appropriate for your space. In summary, yes, the PMC twenty5.22i speakers with a frequency response down to 39Hz will sound good in your combined living room and open kitchen space of the dimensions you described. Optimal setup placement (stands, speaker positioning) can further enhance their performance”. ME - I have considered the Harbeth P3ESR XD2 speaker, the ProAC Tablette 10 Signature, the Totem Signure One speaker, Spendor speakers and keep coming back to the PMC because of its transmission line feature and low frequency capabilities. I like the PMC speakers but am open to other speaker options. Floor standing speakers are not an option. My Infigo Audio streamer runs Audiovarna and is connected to a Bricasti M21 DAC, which feeds into an Ayre EX-8 2.0 integrated amplifier. This drives a pair of PMC Twenty5.21 speakers, which are placed atop a Salamander Designs cabinet (66” long) with an LG OLED TV positioned between them. Does the above make sense? Your comments and Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

@hgeifman How close to the back wall will the speakers be? What sound characteristics are most important to you? What’s your budget, and are you looking for new or used? |
Thanks..... 1) How close to the back wall will the speakers be? ANSWER - 12”. NOTE the maximum width of speaker is about 8” since they have sit on my 66” cabinet with the TV in the middle. Will these speakers be too large for room? I do not know but it is a concern. 2) What sound characteristics are most important to you? ANSWER - I like a warmer immersive sound without excessive low frequencies (not booming). An open soundstage and beautiful sound. In other words, similar to my PMC Twenty5.21 speakers but more. 3) What’s your budget, and are you looking for new or used? ANSWER - New, around $5,000 - $6,000. The PMC Twenty5.22i speaker look very good but I am open to other speaker options. |
@hgeifman Given your budget and what you’re looking for I’d put the ProAc D2 high on your list although their cheaper monitors may be sufficient as well. The Qln Prestige One is a little over your budget but worth a look, and the Joseph Audio Prism, Usher Dancer Mini-X, Fritz Carbon 7, and Revival Atalante 3 are also outstanding at their price points. |
