Phono stage cartridge compatibility question

I just purchased a second hand Allinic H 1201 here on agon and was wondering about the gain on mm cartridges. I’m using a Hana SH with a VPI Scoutmaster and upgraded from a Vincent PHO-8. The Hana is the high output version and I assumed set on mm on the phono stage. I accidentally hooked up H1201 for mc and the volume was a lot louder and the volume knob was about the same volume at the 10 o’clock position as the 3 o’clock position. Can this cause harm to the equipment? I am eventually planning on buying a low output mc cartridge in the future for my other tone arm and am wondering if I could get a little more gain on the volume knob with the adjustable gain settings on the H2101 transformers. I don’t kneed a huge amount of extra gain, it just feels like I have to turn it up way to high on some LPs like ZZ Top “Tres Hombres”. Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

All high-output mc cartridges require the use of the standard mm inputs! Otherwise overload of the phonostage will occur. Bad!
By the way congratulations on your new Allnic, that is a really good phono stage worthy of really good cartridges, MC and MM.
Thanks to tooblue and everyone else. My preamp is the PrimaLuna dialogue premium. I'm not certain it's so much an issue as just not a lot of gain from the H1201 or the PHO-8? The gain for both of them on mm is 40db I believe which seems pretty common on phono stages for mm? When I play CDs on my PS Audio dac/memory player transport I can barely get to 12 o'clock on the volume knob, usually around 10 o'clock the noise level is very loud. Thanks
