Phono stage as preamp

I'm going with an all analogue set up for my system, so I want to replace my regular preamp and just use my phonostage as my only preamp.   I have the EAR 834P with the volume knob, so I suppose it will work.  I'm just wondering how many people have this kind of setup and if there are any disadvantages to doing it like this.

Thanks,

If there is a volume control, there must be a buffer otherwise the output impedance would vary with output level. So its not really a phono stage you're using but a phono preamp.

Usually, no.
just make sure that the phono stage alone has enough gain to drive the amplifier as well as a low enough output impedance for the same end.
Most hi level devices do not need the extra gain afforded by a separate line stage.
