Omega Speaker Set up questions

Hello all,

On my second alliteration of Omego Speakers, sold my first pair of Super Monitors because contrary to these forums, I found them, for lack of a better term, sort of thin, tinny and hollowed out especially in vocals.  Later discovered my amp had something to do with that so sold that and currently have a Dennis Had Inspire Fire Bottle KT88 SEP Amp and Dennis Had LP27a preamp.  Lots of Omega love with Dennis Had gear so purchased a pair of closed box Outlaw 1.5's.  Installed yesterday and to my chagrin, hearing that same nasty tone and this time I know it's not the amp.  I had Klipsch RP600M's prior with great success but wanted a larger speaker.  Room is small, 15'6" L x 11' W x 10' H.  Speakers on long wall approx 8' apart....front baffle approx 30" off back wall.  I have found that moving further into the room makes it worse, moving closer to back wall improves it some.  Augmented by two REL R305's crossed over at 60hz.  Looking for suggestions....I'm normally very good with set up but something is off and it may well just be I'm just not in tune with this brand.

Thanks in advance!

Have you contacted Omega? The gentlemen I spoke with (Les I believe) was very cool to chat with.

On a side note, when I had my full range speakers they sounded way better on the short wall (my room is 11x14x8) and the back of the speaker about 15" from the wall and I was sitting about 9' from the face. That placement worked for the Mark Audio Pensil clones and the Audio Nirvana 2.8MKii big ports I built.

My Omega Super monitor 7's are are very full and balanced--nothing thin or tinny about them coupled to a Ray 6L6 SE amp. Quite the contrary.  Your problem lies elsewhere.

I've been using a pair of Omega Hemptones since 2005. When I first hooked them up, the sound was disappointing - -  a bit thin and "papery".  Louis Chochos had told me that they needed to be broken in for about 100 hours before they would sound really good.

As I recall, during break-in Louis advised positioning the speakers so that the drivers faced each other and playing them at a moderately loud level.  I did as he advised (breaking the speakers in 9 or 10 hours at a time while I was away at my job), and gradually the sound did improve.  They really bloomed after roughly 200 hours, and I absolutely love them.

Thx all...sunshdw, unfortunately this is not a dedicated room and long wall is it.  Second system and I've had several setups in there that sounded very good.

Corelli....unfortunately I've had other speakers thru there without an issue.  I've been at this awhile and know for sure it's nothing upstream.  Several Dennis Had users have Omegas with great results.  Why I asked about set up...interestingly gets better closer to front wall and worse as I move them further into the room.  I typically follow Jim Smiths Getting Better Sound guidelines.

Rshak....both Omega ventures were bought used and atleast 2 or 3 years old so ought to be pretty well broke in.  I have them running now just to be sure.

Again thanks to all

@ptrck887   Ah, may be placement then.  Mine are in a second system where they need to be within two feet of the front wall.
