You can get the idler rebuilt by Russell Industries on the east coast.
I don't know why, but every one of these I've seen has had a motor that takes a while to warm up before getting up to speed- about 5 minutes or so. The motor and platter bearing can be lubricated with a few drops of automatic transmission fluid. The motor will spin easily by hand if its properly lubricated. The linkages that move the idler should be treated with WD-40, so that they move with ease. The old lubricants get gummy and act like glue so the linkages may have to be disassembled to get them to work right.
Make sure the motor spindle and drive surface on the inside of the platter are clean.
