Once I got the number of springs correct for the weight, I sprayed the entire assembly with 3M rubberized undercoat. This appears to have made them noticeably quieter.
I put a sets under subs and speakers. When I leaned on a sub while reaching for something on the floor, I could hear some spring noise. After the application of the rubber compound, I couldn't hear that anymore.
In normal use (playing music) they don't move enough to make any noise. A more practical consideration is if the coating provides enough damping factor to damp out resonant behavior. That is one of the main differences with Townshend Pods, they are designed with an air valve engineered to provide about 1% total damping factor. You don't want much or its not isolating like a spring. But you do want some or it resonates and this alters the tone of lots of instruments. So rather than listening for squeaks that never will occur with music you might try listening for the resonant sounds that will.
Good suggestion, thanks. I will try to listen for resonances. The coating is a spray that only applied a thin coat. This did not seal the springs like on Townsend Pods.
