A transducer generates a very high frequency wave, say, 250K, then a slightly different one like 245K (180 degrees out of phase?). The two signals cancel each other out and the result is a 5k signal that you can hear. Something like that. BTW, Sony was granted patents 10-15 years ago for a technology to beam sound and video DIRECTLY INTO YOUR BRAIN! How cool is that?
