LONDON (AP) — Imagine a world where you move around in your own personal sound bubble. You listen to your favorite tunes, play loud computer games, watch a movie or get navigation directions in your car — all without disturbing those around you.

That’s the possibility presented by “sound beaming,” a new futuristic audio technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday it will debut a desktop device that beams sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones.

The company provided The Associated Press with an exclusive demo of the desktop prototype of its SoundBeamer 1.0 before its launch Friday.

The listening sensation is straight out of a sci-fi movie. The 3-D sound is so close it feels like it’s inside your ears while also in front, above and behind them...

A beam-forming device will have off-target sound dropoff (directivity) and can be heard by others there, or behind you but in the same line-of-sight of the beam. Then there is still the question of how it can project a sound to one ear pointed at the device while the other ear is behind your head and in the shadow of both beams. Looks to be impressive, but have to try it to know.
Sci-Fi sound coming in a fast changing world. Soundbeamer tech will certainly remove one or two links in the audio chain.

Elon Musk's Neuralink plan to plant a hair thin chip into the human brain seeks to remove even more.

Apparently in theory, you’d be able to listen to a song simply by thinking of its title.

Both of these technologies might finally put an end to cable debates.

Or they might not.

Does the phrase "It's just a flesh wound." have meaning to you?

Both of these technologies might finally put an end to cable debates.

Not much interest here, either: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/something-actually-new-innovative-in-audio        The only cable obviated by the Noveto tech, would be for one’s headphones.       Is Musk's system all-in-one (sources, control, etc)?
It might work for museum tours unless they’ve figured out how to get the distortion problems fixed in the last 20 years.
