Neotech NEI 3001 III

So, I am going to make an attempt to build an interconnect cable. I am going to use Neotech's  NEI-3001 III cable. After reading the write up on HFC's website for this cable I interpret their info to direct me to connect the the copper sheathing & blue ground  to the RCA plug at the source end of the cable and not the preamp end; in my set up that is a DAC running to the preamp. I assume the arrows on the cable still point towards the preamp. Can anyone explain the mechanics of this? Is there a correlation between the sheathing connected at the source and the charge going in the other direct or are the 2 unrelated?
Thanks,Rick

Try contacting Sonic Craft if you haven't completed this project. I'm sure that they can help you out. That site sells various Neotech cables and can terminate them for you at fair price.

It seems millercarbon's friend would build cables from scratch. This cable is factory made and only requires you to terminate the ends. His post doesn't reflect whether or not he and his friend have experience with this cable so don't be discouraged.

There is a favorable review on the Take Five Audio website from someone who has actual experience with this cable.

The copper sheathing & blue wires connect to ground on the RCA plug at the source end.

Only the blue wires connect to ground on RCA at the target end.  The braided shielding / sheath acts as a "drain" from the source side.

In RCA interconnects, the ground pin should be connected at both source/target because there is some shared voltage that goes back and forth due to the ground/return of the input stage of the target.

That is contrary to convention, where all the shields would connect to the preamp to eliminate multiple paths to ground.
I know a guy who has been building his own for over 30 years. Interconnects, power cords, speaker cables. Whole basement work bench devoted to it. Built all the designs. Dissected, torn down and reverse-engineered more different designs than you can imagine.

One time he brought his very best one over for me to hear. Best he had managed in literally over a hundred built.

The one thing I learned from this beyond a shadow of a doubt is you cannot build anything even as good as an old- very old- $75 used Synergistic Research. Not even Active Shielding, just regular old wire.

So good luck. You're gonna need it.
