Naim Unitiserve Music server upgrade suggestion

I am currently using a pretty out (and outdated) Naim Unitiserve connecting to a Western Digital NAS.  I guess reading files from a NAS is not ideal as the signal pass through many long cables and noisy, non-audio based components.  I have a very good APL DAC, so essentially, I want a very simple but audiophile quality transport with local storage.  The transport needs to be able to read and send native DSD signal out to the DAC.  And of course, most importantly, I am looking for better sound.  It seems most products pack more than what I want/need into one product. Is there such a thing as a digital transport?

Does anyone have experience with Naim UnitiServe and upgraded to another unit like Lumin or Innuos?  How does the UnitiServe compared to newer units?  I am quite interested in the Innuos Zen Mini or Zen at this moment.  Not sure if the mini can give significant improvement over the UnitiServe, or I should go with the Zen.

I believe you are inaccurate. The "signal" doesn’t travel from the NAS, only digital. The only major possible degradation is jitter related, easily remedied. I sold my Synology for other reasons starting with one more computer to remember to power up. Not to mention I lost a hard drive (of course with the Linux OS on it (start over.)

Every streamer I own has it's own SSD full of lossless and HiRez.  Sounds better over here.

I strongly recommend trying an Ifi SPDIF iPurifier before buying a new component.

@fuzztone I think I am looking for the same, a streamer or transport with a local storage, preferably SSD, that can read the files in the storage, and output data to my DAC.  It also need a web interface or app allow me to play/stop music on my phone.  I also need a way to transfer files to the storage, so the most convenient way is through the network, which essentially makes the storage a NAS.  But the transport should read the files “directly” and not over the network.  That is, if my router is turn off and the network is unavailable, I should still be able to play music.
