More costly options to look into would be from EMT and Miyajima.
Mono cartridge recommendations for Dual 1229Q
I'm planning to make my Dual 1229Q dedicated for mono playback. What are some recommended contemporary mono cartridges that will work well with this TT's arm? (Note: I'm good with going somewhat budget on this, so long as I can get 80-90% of the performance of the pricier mono carts.)

I have several mono cartridges at various price points that are all good. For about $350 the Audio Technica AT33 Mono is a steal and is especially good for classical music. It is a MC. Ortofon makes a mono version of the 2M Black designated 2M Mono SE, last check only available in Europe and cost ~$750. At the top I would suggest the Miyajima Zero another MC which sells for $2,200. Of these the one I go to most is the Ortofon which works great for jazz, but it does not sound as sweet as the Miyajima. |
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll probably start with the AT, since I plan on using it with a JLTi phono pre, which is currently set up for MC. I was aware of the Hana (I currently use a Hana with my Technics 1210G), but was hoping to start at a lower price point for the mono, since I'll probably only be using that about 10% of the time (Beatles and Stones in mono sets, vintage Sinatra, Nat King Cole, 45s, etc.). |
Ortofon makes 3 mono carts that are sold here. The 2M Mono around $450, the Quintet Mono around $550 and the Cadenza Mono around $1550. I have the 2M Mono SE, the special one that was sold during the release of The Beatles Mono BoxSet. Love it! I also have an Audio Technica, but the Ortofon is a tad smoother.
