Modification to feet of Maggie MG 3.5's.

To: Drumsgreg: Thanks for your input on 02-02-00. Sound Anchors hasjust revised their on-line catalog, and these units are shown and described on: www.soundanchors.com/page45.html. The "tilt-forward" technique used to sharpen the sound stage was previously unknown to me. I will jury rig, try it, and report the results. However, I question Sound Anchors use of turnbuckles to alter the vertical pitch of the speakers. No matter how fine the thread pitch or class, there will always be some slight inherent play between the threaded shaft and nut of the turnbuckle. Perhaps, after final adjustment with the turnbuckles, rigid members could be installed? If I try these stands, I'll report back on his issue.

check out sound anchors they are making stands for the 3.6 and the 1.6 tet will improve the sound dramicaly.

Have not seen the Cardas system article. Which issue did it appear in? Your cross-bracing approach seems to be an attempt to enhance the stuctural rigidity of the speakers. Because the Maggies are flat high panels, and the stiffening is provided at one extreme end of the panel, I don't know how significant its impact will be. The proposed use of a "tiptoe arrangement" is, I believe, intended to mechanically decouple the speaker from those system vibrations picked up by the floor, and transmitted through the floor back to the speaker. In essence, it is an attempt to decouple a feedback loop. I don't know how well this approach works. Thus, the inquiry.

Hi, I have been considering doing something similar to this but on a little different scale. I made some 3/8" thick x 2" wide x 18" long steel "bars" for my Eminent Tech. LFTVIII speakers and wanted to use these on my 3.5R's which already have tapped holes for tiptoes. I was going to run steel crosspieces in the front and the back to lock everything in place. I have considered attaching these to the existing feet. It seems something like this may help. Did you happen to catch the Stereophile article they did on George Cardas's system and his 3.5R's? He did some major modifications. Let me know your thoughts. Mike
