Can you bias the tubes manually? At what bias does your amp call for?
Matching Tubes
When matching tubes (where you need 2 or more tubes per channel) - is it OK that the Left and Right channel tubes are off as long as the pairs on the given channel are exactly the same ?
Had a mix up with TubeDepot...they shipped a matching pair and then another matching pair..... but the two pairs are off.... one set is 46 and another pair is 54....
these are KT150 tubes
thank you !

yes - it’s ARC Ref 75SE and there is no issue to bias the tubes and the bias is stable..... I was just wondering with all the discussions about ALWAYS matching all the tubes etc.... They also sent me yet another pair that is much closer to the first pair but not matching; 1 tube is 44 and another is 45.... So I guess my questions should have been: would it be better to put the 46 pair on one channel and the two slightly mis-matched tube on the other channel knowing that at least they are very close to the other pair. OR Should I keep two perfectly matched pairs for each channel - even though BETWEEN channels they are off by a larger margin. PS: I really don't know this entire business with Bias and matching so excuse me if I am not making much sense here....I just heard that all tubes should be match in their rating and some other characteristics |
OK...thank you !! Never really understood this business with biasing.....like you said...if amp calls for 65mV and I get the tubes perfect right on 65....then why is everyone making so much stink about making sure all tubes are matched ?? The current is regulated and it will change with the life of tubes...so I know that after 100hrs and then after ...say another 500hrs I will have to re-adjust for each tube as they will drift over time..... |
