As an ex Octave V70se/V110 owner I have to highly recommend the super black box with those speakers. It lowers the noise floor and gives a hair more headroom.

This quote from the SoundStage Ultra review of the Codex may be germane. "With the Audio Physic Codex, I found that the volume setting needed to be a bit higher before I could hear the frequencies at or near its specified lower limit of 28Hz.
