Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin

I haven't posted in a while but this is worth knowing about. I was fortunate enough to go hear this concert the other night in Calgary in an old church. It was outstanding. Just the two singers and their guitars. Their interaction with one another and the audience was great. If you get a chance, and like this music, I don't think you will be disappointed. Here is a link to the tour.

They were over here in the UK in the Autumn, I caught their act in Birmingham. definitely a good night out. Shawn Colvin can do no wrong, for me.
Mofimadness,

"Three Girls and their Buddy" was also on PBS. Not as good as seeing them live but still a treat. Glad I have a copy on my DVR. My favorite from the show was "Shelter Me" featuring Patty and Buddy. That version is better (guitar and vocals IMO) than the album version with Julie Miller.
Saw the show in Blackfoot, Id. 2.5 hrs of fantastic entertainment. Great acoustic show. Their history together was shared through their music and storytelling. Remarkable at their craft.
Thanks for the info. Peeked my interest and looked to see show in Chicago, but not willing to plunk $150 a ticket for it.

Yes, Mofimadness, i saw this show in my area as well, very very good. I am sorry to have missed Emmylou, Rodney and Richard this time around.
I saw "3 Girls and Their Buddy" two or three years ago. It featured: Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller.

It was fantastic. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Not sure if they are touring any longer, but if so, see them if you get a chance.
Shawn Colvin, Rosanne Cash, and Mary Chapin Carpenter turned up quite a bit at shows 20 years back. I saw some combination of the three several times at the Bottom Line in NYC, usually at a songwriters' show called, 'In Their Own Words.' Good chemistry among the three performers, hardly boring, but to each their own.

@Don - tend to agree with your observation. Though I have seen Richard Thompson on several occasions pick up a guitar and support bands as diverse as Crowded House to Dave Alvin and be content to play in the background.

I remember watching that on PBS and noticing the sad difference in psychology comparing a trio of women to a trio of men. The women supported each other and played "together" also taking turns at the lead.

The trio of men (Neil Young, Eric Clapton, and ???)(I think those are the correct men)each stomped around in their own little circle like wolves marking territory. There was no interplay or sharing. They were playing the same song, but they weren't playing "together".
20 years back at a Bob Dylan Tribute Concert, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, and Rosanne Cash came together to perform

You Ain't Goin' Nowhere .

These gals can do no wrong.
