Marshall Major Alternative

I am in the process of building an affordable, John Frusciante-inspired stereo rig. However, I’m having trouble choosing a reasonably affordable amp to substitute for John’s 200W Marshall Major. Will Gallucio at Triungulo Lab made a faithful reproduction of the Marshall Major circuit, but it costs over $2K. For those who have played a Marshall Major, can a Marshall Origin get close enough? Or is there really something special going on in that circuit? Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

For anyone curious, I’m using the clean channel of a DSL40C in place of the Silver Jubilee for the modern-voiced side of the rig. I’m also running through a PastFx Chorus Ensemble in place of the Boss CE-1 to get that signature crunch from the pre-amp.

issue got solved!!

I owned a Major for 10+ years. I bought it for $299 at Manny's in NYC/48th St. back in 1991. I used it for guitar. Plenty of watts from that quartet of 6550's! Tried it driving my pair of Quad 57's in parallel mono. Sounded real good!

@pekoms The Marshall Major was built around hifi principles rather than guitar amp construction (since it was meant for either bass or PA amplification) so used a better output transformer and proper hifi design practice through the circuit. So there is something special about it in that regard.

You're going to have troubles getting around that on a budget!
