Major artists that don't have an epic song

The one they did at Woodstock is pretty iconic.

No drinking or any kind of mind altering substance. My take on what defines an epic song is one that starts slow and is long and has an over the top section somewhere towards the end. Steve Miller Band and the Romones.

Frank Zappa. But then he wasn't a songwriter. Or a singer. Or much of anything, except full of himself. So smug!

How long does a song need to be ? Goin Home by The Stones was over 11 minutes and Sympathy for The Devil over 6 minutes. 

It would vary for the individual but 7 mins would be good. There are great groups that wrote great 3 min songs. I'm discussing what artists wrote with the complexity with layering and progression of song structures that are cohesive. Of course have an epic section like Deep Purple's " Child in Time"

Guess I'm having trouble understanding what is meant by the "epic" nature of the song. Do you mean like Close To The Edge or Thick As A Brick or even, It Never Rains?

Santana´s Europa, 1976 is an epic tune from the maestro himself.

Nothing, I mean nothing starts slow and builds like Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness.

A lot of Pop groups (as opposed to Rock bands), like The Rubinoos, The Ramones, ABBA, and The Flamin' Groovies. Also true American-style Rock 'n' Roll bands (as opposed to Rock bands) like Rockpile, Los Lobos, NRBQ, and The Dwight Twilley Band.
