Magnesium headhells for a Dynavector?

Does the Dynavector use the SME type connection or is it unique to them?

The Dynavector tonearm uses the standard 5 PIN connector, so any standard headshell can be used with the 507 tonearm.

In my experience with the Dynavector XV1s cartridge, getting the overhang and particularly the null points absolutely right is paramount in getting the best sound.

You cant try and find a Nagaoka magnesium headshell, which is lighter than the stock Dyna headshell. I've experimented in lighter headshells, such as the Sumiko one, and they do tend to speed things up.

To lighten up the stock headshell, I've removed the hook from the headshell with very good results. Just make sure the no cartridge is mounted if you remove the hook.

The "the standard 5 PIN connector" I've never seen, a 4 pin one is another thing. ;)

That's how it's usually described. My guess is that the fifth pin is the vertical alignment pin. You can get more information about it here.

5 pin refers to the DIN cable which connects at the tonearm base, not the headshell connection.

Dear Isanchez: Audiofeil is right, like Rap posted the headshell is 4 pin.

Btw, Johnny53 you can't use that AT headshell because the XV-1 must be screwed from the top not other way and the AT design is to cartridges that can fix on it from the cartridge below side.

Thanks for the clarification. For the wrong reason, I've been calling it a 5-pin headshell for while and probably have kept calling it like that had not been for your correction.

There is a Nagaoka magnesium headshell for sale in Ebay. I looks pretty much like the Sumiko headshell though.

Some contemporary options are Ortofon LH-9000 and LH-9000 headshells, and Oyaide HS-CF headshell.

I've mounted the XV1s a few times on few different headshells I own and every time it sounds a bit sluggish is when the overhang and null points are off.

Azjake, are you using an arc protractor to mount the XV1 or the overhang gauge from Dynavector?

Btw, those Nagaoka that you can see around ( including the one Johnny53 posted )are not made by Nagaoka, are not made of magnesium but aluminum and weights over 14grs. IMHO the one to go is for the original one ( hard to find ) and/or for the Denon one. I already try both on the XV-1 with the 505 and with other tonearms and makes a difference for the better specially on the Dyna tonearm.

OK, then the vendor was lying. On a different note, the Nagaoka headshell I linked to looks just like the Sumiko and LPGear ZuPreme models, right down to the azimuth adjustment. As you say, that headshell is 14g. I just weighed my Sumiko.

If it's low weight headshell the OP is going for, there are also some wooden Yamamotos that get down to 8g, and the Technics headshell is the lightest I've come across at 7.5g. You can replace the Technics' crappy cartridge leads with silk-wound OFC ones from LPGear for $15.95.

Ortofon also has this wooden headshell that weighs 9.5g.

Dear Johnnyb53: All those similar headshells are OEM ones made for the same builder. There are other sources for that " same " Nagaoka.

What about Orsonic AV 101 b and s ?
The Ortofon LH-6000 is 70 Euro in Europe (intended for the Jubilee and Windfeld),the Orsonic from 100 -150 Euro.
I hope I am not missing something?
