Preamp predicament I searched Vinyl Asylum and found some generally good comments about the Alpha 9's phono stage, so I'm leaning toward other upgrades. In no particular order...The Zero's will stay until I get a proper sub, hopefully an NHT that will blend well wit...
Preamp predicament Of the albums that I have on both vinyl and CD, I tend to prefer the vinyl. I always assumed that this is because my CD player is a 300 disc Sony jukebox and not anything special.
Preamp predicament Well, the NHTs pretty much have to stay. If they get replaced, it will have to be with something nearly identical in size.As far as the sub, I admit its shortcomings freely (it was a gift, so I kept it). For $300, can I do significantly better?
Steam cleaning records 2 "Might they adversely affect the records we are so intent on preserving?" Absolutely, as might impurities in the air. That's why I'm building a vacuum chamber for my listening room.Yes, I'm joking. :)
Steam cleaning records 2 Tvad,Without examining the ASTM specification and knowing more about the properties of vinyl, it's impossible for me to know much about its absorptive action, i.e. the rate of absorption. I can hazard a guess, however, that it's probably not const...
Steam cleaning records 2 I should have added to my post above that I am making no claim or judgment about whether the rate of water absorption of PVC is significant, let alone beneficial. I am just remarking on an observed property of the material.
Steam cleaning records 2 I've seen data sheets on PVC which list water absorption properties. A data sheet might read:Water Absorption % increase 24 hrs @ 25°C (ASTM D570)The percentage is usually less than .5%, sometimes much less, but it does indicate that PVC *can* abs...
Trying to get in to vinyl, turntable suggestions? Many of the entry level audiophile turntables are constructed of... not much. MDF is a popular component and glued on motors are not unheard of. Many are very fussy to adjust properly when adustments are offered at all. Some have issues with speed...
Steam cleaning records 2 Hi Kipdent,Look in Walgreen's small appliance section. Some seem to stock them, some don't. I recently found (but did not buy) the old Perfection steamer in one WG, so try more than one store. As an option, consider the Shark from Kmart. I audition...
Steam cleaning records 2 Glass Plus has been hailed as a good cleaner in some forums. I have used it as a pre-treat (cut with water, 1:1) prior to steaming some particularly cruddy albums. I can't say that the results were superior, but my technique at the time did not in...
Magnesium headhells for a Dynavector? Carbon fiber headshell? Where? What's it weigh? How much?
Maybe your turntable setup is actually okay . . . All I can add is to agree that new does not equal good.A Rega cartridge I bought recently was so very obviously flawed that no microscope was needed to see that the cantilever was misaligned in two axes. There is no possibility that anyone (sober)...
Steam cleaning records 2 I tried a Shark Steam Bottle which also utilized a trigger to pump water into the heating chamber. I personally did not care for this added requirement, much preferring to simply hold down the trigger on a Perfection-like model (also a Shark brand...
Steam cleaning records 2 Crem, thanks for the update on the MC steamer, as well as the info on Peak water.
Steam cleaning records 2 Sorry Tvad, I don't mean to be argumentative or difficult, I'm just asking the the general population here whether they think that water from a single distillation process is inferior or equal to a lower tier reagent grade RO water.Crem, there are... |
