Count me in on a similar setup with 1.6's and gear in the middle. Like Cmo says, you get better results if you can pull the speakers in front of the tv or other gear. Maggies throw a big soundstage and I haven't found having gear in the midle causes big problems. One thing I have found to help noticeably was the addition of a pair of Jon Risch's DIY "rooms lenses" behind the speakers.
