Luxman L-550ax

Hi,

I have just bought a Luxman L-550ax. I bought it for the reason of eventually relocating to a smaller place and need an all in one. Due to that relocation, I will eventually need to get bookshelf speakers. I've narrowed it down to the Ascilabs C6B. They are 85db at 4 ohm. Will the 550ax's 40w class A be able to drive them in no larger of a room than 15' x 20' ?

Thanks for the help

I'm not sure, you'd have to read up on them. I read about them first in Stereophile Magazine.

Here you go, from the Stereophile article -

the active Genelec G Three is a 100% all-analog, powered two-way monitor.

enobenetto, I’ve been intrigued by the Genelec G3’s ever since reading about them a couple of years ago. They’re active speakers, so power shouldn’t be an issue.

I think you'll be fine. Luxman never posted the complete specs on the L-590 and L-550 amps. Their specs are on the Class A power alone, after that point they change to AB, and put out considerably more power.

bojack, perhaps you’re correct, but that would seem unusual to me. The L-590AX is also advertised as Class A, 30W/ch into 8 ohms, but transitions out of Class A and produces around 90W/ch, 8 ohms, and something like 160W/ch into 4 ohms. I would expect the 550 to operate in a similar manner.
