Thanks for the recommendations. My budget would be 3 to 4k. I think used for now unless something happens that allow my finances to stretch a bit further. I'm looking at Feb or March to make this purchase. Iniatially i was looking for an R2R but i realize there are very good DACs out there that i haven't heard of that sound as good or better. My preferences are transparency as i like a deep soundstage with a balanced sound and also good imaging. |
The Lumin X1 is a good DAC with an amazing volume control for a DAC. I tend to hate DAC volume controls, except the Lumin X1. I am limiting this to the 6 or 7 DACs I have owned. You can get a used one for about $7k. Lumin X1 DAC/Streamer in mint condition + Extras For Sale - US Audio Mart This includes fibre optic streaming. Just spend less than $100 to get a fibre enabled network switch. What I use now is a Schitt Yggi+ LIM | Benchmark LA4 preamp. That is around used $4k and great but I also need to add a streamer. It is hard to find a low-priced DAC that has a good volume. If you do not listen at low volume this maybe not a big deal, but for me it is essential.

The Bricasti M3 is an easy recommendation. I’d also recommend Bel Canto as I had a DAC3VB in my system and not only was the DAC excellent, especially with the virtual battery supply (VBS), but used as a preamp I couldn’t tell any difference between it and my excellent Bryston BP6 preamp. To say I was shocked is an understatement. Best of luck. |
