I have several pairs of Canare star quad I use for mic cables. I love how flexible this cable is, comes in many colors and it’s affordable. For the fun of it I threw some on my system to hear how they compare to either my Clear Days or Wywires - all balanced cables. I feel the Canare has a nice full round sound but lost a little on the upper frequencies; a little rolled off and not as extended. Additionally I felt there was also a little less space between instruments and etc. but overall the Canare did a fine job and had a nice warm sound that was enjoyable to listen to. The Canare is so affordable I say why not try it first. I used Neutrik xlr’s so I’d say better ends might improve the cable some but why bother honestly as the warmish sound reminded me of older tube gear a little, at least on my system. Good luck.
Klyne + Aleph 5
I recently acquired a Klyne 7.35, which I really like. It is very transparent, but at the same time represents the tone of instruments. I have an Aleph 5 being shipped to me, in which I purchased because I wanted an amp that added a little more body to the music, while at the same time keeping the detail of the Klyne. Am I way off on this? I use to have a First Watt J2, which I really liked and regretted selling it. I thought the Aleph 5, while not the same amp, would have similar characteristics while giving me 50 watts of single-ended power for my Yamaha NS-1000’s. Also, would Canare star quad xlr cables be suitable for connecting the Klyne with the Aleph, not robbing me of any detail?
