Kickstarter for AAA "Vintage" with Kenny Barron, Joe Martin and Johnathan Blake

A few years ago, I got some support on this board for my Kickstarter for “No Filter” so I wanted to let you all know about a new all analog project I am fundraising for: a quartet record with jazz legend Kenny Barron, Joe Martin and Johnathan Blake.

This new album is a mix of compositions of mine and standards. There are some duets between Kenny Barron and I, and some quartet tracks. The album was recorded to multitrack tape by Ryan Streber at Oktaven Audio, and mixed at Brooklyn Recording by Pete Rende at 30 IPS on a custom all tube 1/2 inch Ampex 351 tape machine that is pretty unique at this point and sounds fantastic. Bernie Grundman will do the mastering and cut the record, all analog.

The Kickstarter page is here. It has many rewards, starting with the vinyl itself, in regular or limited, numbered edition, but also including test pressings, R2R tapes, as well as high resolution downloads and CDs.

I really went all out to make this record sound great. I am very pleased with the results, musically as well as sonically, and I hope you will consider supporting this project.

I hope it’s OK to post this. I am happy to answer any and all questions. Thank you for your support!

I have backed the Vinyl, My last kickstarter Vinyl was more than a year past.

How does one pay in funds?

Post removed

I backed your last project No Filter, which sounded fantastic, and of course was excellent music. Your previous (first?) album, The Turn gets a lot of plays as well.  The Turn may not be all analog, but may be my favorite of the two for production.  Great music all around in any case.  Good luck, I've backed this one Vintage.

@gakerty: Thanks a lot for your continued support! I really appreciate it. We just made the Kickstarter goal so it’s going to happen.

If anyone else wants to sign up, the Kickstarter runs until Jan 12. The regular AAA 180g vinyl is $35 for Kickstarter backers. It will go up after that.

I am grateful for the support on this board, that I’ve been a member of for a long time now!

A Few Coffees got me back on track.

Pledge is now made, I'll inform my local HiFi Group as well.

@pindac : Thank you for your support! I really appreciate it. Also thanks for informing your local HiFi group. Word of mouth helps a lot!

The Group debuted my Crowd Fund Purchased Album on Saturday.

Even thought the Music content was not for all, the Quality of the pressing was very well received and in my view much better than some of the New Vinyl Releases  received from mail order suppliers.

I was particularly impressed by the quietness of the Dead Wax and the Groove.

In the not too distant past, I have returned LP's with a noisy Dead Wax and Groove

You can listen to a couple of tracks here:

On a Misty Night (Tadd Dameron)

We See (Thelonious Monk)

It’s Souncloud, so it’s compressed but it will give you an idea. The 192/24 files sound better, and I’m happy to send them to anyone here. The Kickstarter page is here and runs until January 12.

Jerome,

In already and can't wait!  Love your projects and music!

Peace,

Tony

I'm In as well, and when recommending the link to the Local HiFi Group, one member has informed of their history of supporting previous offered Albums.

6 days left on the Kickstarter! Just 7 test pressings left, and no R2R (but I can make it happen for the members of this board if you are interested). Plenty of regular AAA vinyl available though. Any and all questions, please let me know and thanks for your kind support!

Quick reminder: only three days left to support the Kickstarter for "Vintage" (Jerome Sabbagh, Kenny Barron, Joe Martin and Johnathan Blake)! AAA vinyl, high res files, CDs, test pressings are still available. A couple of free tracks in 24/192 are available to anyone who asks. Thank you for your support!

It took some time but I am happy to report that the vinyl pressings are now done! I received an email from the plant this morning. They now need to ship me all the records by freight to Brooklyn. Once I have everything, I will then spend a few days packing and shipping them!

It's been a long road but I am very excited to get the records. Thanks to all on this board who supported this project!

The vinyl is finally here! More details on the update I posted on Kickstarter, right here: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...997?ref=ksr_email_creator_project_update_copy

I will be packing, shipping and fulfilling new orders for the foreseeable future. Thanks to all who supported on this board!

All LPs have now shipped! If anyone else is interested, I will now be in a position to fulfill orders quickly at www.jeromesabbagh.com. Thank you for the support on this board, I really appreciate it! Any and all feedback is welcome. I hope those of you who supported the project will be happy with their record.

Nice review of "Vintage" in Audiophilia today. They including "Vintage" in the Audiophilia Dream List:

"With "Vintage", Sabbagh has propelled himself to the front rank of young tenor players before the public. He’s a fine composer and a superb player. And like all great musicians, he knows how to surround himself with excellence.

The recording is from Audiophile Demo Land. Warm, detailed, great bass from Barron’s left hand, plucky string bass and splashy-as-hell cymbals all with a focused Van Gelder-style recording. No higher praise from me. And always present, Sabbagh’s ethereal sound floating above, slightly left.

Recorded all analog [...] Mastering by Bernie Grundman and pressed at Gotta Groove on 180g vinyl. My copy was flat and the vinyl was silent."

I was asked by Jazziz Magazine to write a piece about working with Kenny Barron for "Vintage". This is what I wrote ...
