Live jazz is my favorite jazz to listen to. I have four to check out (a litle bit of guitar, horns, piano, great stand up bass and vocals): 1. Ray Brown Trio - Live at Starbucks 2. The Ruby Braff & George Barnes Trio - Live at the new School 3. Various artists - Smokin' at the Half Note 4. Rene Marie - Live at Jazz Standard
I am so glad someone mentioned Jessica Williams,"Live at Yoshi's" . Tok2000 and I were front and center for that performance and really thought it to be something special. When the cd came out we were thrilled with how it not only captured a great performance, but also sounded just like the venue. This is a must have for jazz piano fans.
Hi5harry, you and Tok2000 picked a great night to be Yoshi's. Mahalo for confirming the recording captures the music & the venue. I totally agree, "This is a must have for jazz piano fans." Right now, it gets my vote for jazz recording of the year!
PS- here's another great live CD I forgot to mention- Jason Lindner- Live/UK.
Hello, HI5harry, I must agree with your choice of Jessica Williams, it's truly a warm and solid performance. Although I wasn't present for the real event, yet I feel somehow connected and present in front of a live session, every time I play it.
Hi5harry and I were at the Yoshi's concert. It was one of the best Jazz concerts I have been to (and I have been to the Monterey Jazz Festival 4 years in a row). Jessica Williams is an amazing Jazz piano player.
