nsp, Lester On Broadway was solid; nice trio.
It was refreshing to hear a little philosophy coming from a musician; I'm glad you noticed that.
Jazz for aficionados
acman3 It's nice to hear Andrew Cyrille say he can still learn something about music (at 78 yrs old I think). BTW he is still gigging my friend saw him in Brooklyn N.Y. last year,.My friend did not know him and I had to explain how long he has been on the scene and who he had played with. My friend was impressed. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TTujaqZOsvI |

alexatpos Thanks for posting more "west coast" clips. I only knew V Feldman from those live Blackhawk dates. Did not know he was british. Didn't he play on one of Miles albums too? Herb Geller is another guy I was not too familiar with. Enjoy his work. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2HhiEr4QdJM |
orpheus10 After listening twice my vote goes to the Ahmed Abdul-Malik version over the C Brown-M Roach cut . I think the Abdul-Malik version conjured up the images/mood you described just a tad better. Also kudos to the piano players dazzling solo on the "Delilah " cut posted by frogman. Not sure who it was. |
Got one for you O-10, Ethio-Jazz ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq5QVvbwhHs&list=PLSUWdOAKv3S_nAKPnXBkjHtVmi2IOE3Pq |
Just in case you were wondering who most of the non Ethiopians were. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUlEooT8V4s |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyuVK01f0bI My goal was to play the excellent American Diaries with Joe Lovano, Peter Erskine, Eddie Gomez, and Mainieri, but no videos. Big Steps Ahead fan, especially with Brecker. |
nsp, you have keen ears and good taste; "I think the Abdul-Malik version conjured up the images/mood you described just a tad better" While what you said was so true, the surface noise detracted a bit for me. That was a good comment on Frogman's Delilah; I have Bobby Hutcherson's "Delilah", but not that one, I don't think. |
I have Bobbby's album "Skyline", which has another version of "Delilah" that's rather laid back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umNd0595xrE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwoTLu2UjjE I don't think I have enough of Bobby Hutcherson. |
My favorite “Delilah” and my favorite Bobby Hutcherson record. The way Ahmad Jamal would play the tune. Fantastic rhythm section on that record. Geri Allen sounds amazing! It should be noted that Hutcherson is not playing vibes on this, he is playing marimba. Beautiful woody and and earthy quality. Speaking of Geri Allen and amazing rhythm sections. With one of the most insteresting and perhaps the most unusual female vocalist in jazz: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QBSbZ6XhTUg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf5cjj3PMwc https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AMmiQqvq1Gc |
orpheus10 Thanks for introducing me to Ahmed Abdul-Malik . Also glad you posted the Clifford Brown -Max Roach Quintet- it has been too long since I listened to them. Most people think of Harold Land as the sax player with them but Sonny Rollins was in the group at a different time!! Going to listen to them later. Your post of Terje Rypdal was the first album I bought on ECM because of the cut you posted getting airplay on a local college station. The music was so different and interesting I had to buy it. Rypdal's double album Odyssey is my favorite.. Another from Wave http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U8HFl7NwzDc Another ECM early favorite: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CHsZ_-9442o http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3NVBxTazvLM |
nsp, I really enjoy "Timeless". However I only listen to it late at night with the lights out and a wee dram in my hand. ;^) I've recommended that album to several friends but most don't "get it". Oh well, strokes and folks. Maybe if I furnished the single malt too? Here's a favorite song for me. However, this is a much extended version and with different musicians than the LP, other than Silver. Note all the discussion in the comments about who is in this band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFjmWI-d6d4 |
pryso "Timeless" is not easy to introduce to anyone. It's not jazz, it's not rock, it's both. And several songs are intense. Haha maybe the single malt would help. I've been known to go for the single malt whiskey during late night listening sessions. They say that music is a talent & a gift from God and therefore should be returned to the Gods in the form of a song. Lucky are the ones who are enriched with the ability to create a music that would please Gods ears. I might not be the God nor the Goddess, but this music surely please my ears. They might have been recently posted (you guys are quite active) but still... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LAAi_BanJo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49A4ZAXgZts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w5amYH7NeM |
Tete Montoliu! One of my favorites and one lesser known player who certainly deserves more recognition. Nice clips, nsp. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-on4qQYDGVA |
While exploring the feminine mystique, we discovered the "romantic" Nancy Wilson, and the sexy Sarah Vaughn, along with some I've forgotten; now I give you the "powerful" Ms. Nina Simon; she sounds like she's right in the room with you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Y11hwjMNs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua2k52n_Bvw The best un-acknowledged jazz pianist there is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynnb6ejdEz0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeMfDflHM1E |
