Hybrid SACDs on regular CPD?

Yes, it can that is the reason they are called Hybrids is because they have both a redbook layer as well as a High Rez layer. And my experience has been with the Hybrid discs is that the redbook layer on the Hybrid sounds better than the redbook only disc.

Yes they can, I do have a player that has a problem with a couple of my sacd's though...it's an older player which may be the cause?

Yes a regular CD player can play a "Hybrid" sacd disc.
