how to put together 6awg thhn speaker cables

I've read of the incredible bargain the Home Depot/Lowe's 6awg cable is for speaker cables. I've bought the cables. I have 4 18' lengths.
Can someone kindly explain how exactly I would go about making the cables. I would assume a spade of some sort would be best to accept a cable of this thickness.

Where I bought my DIY cable(SUPRA),that gentleman has alot of stuff,for sale,& every question I had,he was able to answer.I,d be surprised if ,between the 2 stores,2maybe 3 people could explain wire ins and outs.All your questions could be answered with one call.New cables could be at your place in a couple of days ready for your listening enjoyment.More questions? Same guy with the info I seek answered the phone I wondered what his take was on the cables offered in todays market.I quit reading & let my ears listen.They didnt care what I,d read, only what was possible in the sounds,in the detail of the notes.Angry Chair.Listen close,that dude is ANGRY.Good Luck
Maddoggy....on the sauce today,huh?

Theskudra...No reason to spend a bunch of money on connectors for those wires,go to a car stereo installer and get them to crimp some spades on them.Make sure the spades will fit your amp and speaker connections.
6 awg? 6?

You could walk over to your speakers on them and never touch the carpet!
Besides Tpreaves answer which I agree with another option would be to have the connectors soldered on. I'm thinking because of the weight of the cable itself and any vibrations from the speaker crimping may over time make for a bad connection. Just another thought.
I think Bound for Sound may have originally made the recommendation when he was using a Pass Labs X-250 power amp. I tried and still use the cable. You weave the cables around each other loosely about 10-12" and terminate with spades tat will fit the wire. I eventually soldered mine on as I play around with a lot of cables and the crimped on spades eventually came loose.
A good idea would be to pick out the spades first by getting a few to sample. Check them out on your speakers binding posts and then either crimp or solder them onto the ends.

Crimping should be good enough. thereafter, or prior to the spade attachment, slip some heat shrink onto the cables so the oxidation where the connectors are attached is impeded.

It comes in sizes and colors so you can tag each end as to polarity. Putting a slight twist to the pairs and adding some 1/4 inch sensing tape now and then to the length of the cables should also make them more manageable and neater in appearance. Sensing tape comes in several colors.

I hear there are socks for DIY speaker cables too... somewhere online.

If the project doesn't work out satisfactorily for you, simply add plugs to either end and you'll have that high current extension cable or power cord, you've always wanted! lol
Nah, I just find it hard to believe you can get the best sound from cables from home depot/lowes.They got crappers & sod, a speaker cable? who knew.If possible does not bare wire have the potential to deliver the best sound possible.That is what I was looking for.SUPRA. GREAT PRODUCT.

Tony Faulkner a famous sound engineer at a British Hi-Fi show. Was using for speaker cables of all things a pair of Black and Decker orange and black extension cords. With no one noticing at all and with sound that was excellent...interesting news.
The wealth of DIY on the inter-net avalible to the listiner to try for oneself.I havnt seen too much 6ga used.I,m not sure if they could answer THAT kind of a question,and on short runs?Wouldnt matter the dia. of the speaker cable going in,what it bottle necks down to the internal wiring dia.Why such the large size.Size matters,but this is audio.It may not apply. Black & DEcker?WHO KNEW.Thats like,whats under the hood,kind of info.The T.V. tray tops and concrete blocks are working great.there are many roads but only one sound.I,d still buy from a place into the stuff I am into,AUDIO.Paints,bug sprays,crappers,oh could you answer a audio question for me.You can hope :}
