How competitive are you with your system?

Do you try to rank your system with others’?
Or are you content with enjoying your rig for what it is?

Do you try to rank your system with others’?

I find inspiration listening to other peoples'  setups. An audio buddy and friend of mine shares a similar approach to my fully actively configured speaker system (he initially inspired me to go that route) using the same Xilica DSP/digital crossover, although our speaker-amp combos are different. Visiting each other we're giving critique to our respective setups in the wake of new tweaks and potential investments, and being we know each other so well it's a frank, warts and all kinda feedback to have a better bearing and understanding of what kind of initiatives and corrections that may need to be implemented. Within the last year or so he's invested in new main speakers (Stage Accompany M57), a new DAC (Mola Mola Tambaqui), new streamer (Grimm Audio MU1) and reconfigured the whole of his switch and router system incl. ethernet cables. Many hours have been spent at his home finding the proper sonic balance again, both acoustically, mechanically, with new digital crossover settings to accommodate the new speakers, their integration with the subs and all. Myself I've recently invested in a new DAC (NuPrime Evolution DAC-2), a possibly uncoming NuPrime Evolution Stream, switched my MC² Audio amps to newer versions, reconfigured the router-switch chain, etc., and so we've been tweaking around these changes as well with IC cable swaps, decoupling, digital crossover settings, etc. It's a fun and rewarding process that we both enjoy helping each other with.

Very much so. The basics and more are in place, so what comes down the road will  be good building blocks to work from.

I used to think about the competitive nature of my audio journey when I was young. At 71 I couldn’t care less. I enjoy what I have and do not think I need anything else except an upgraded streamer set up. Everyone who listens to my system walks always stunned which means only that I am on the right path but each ear is different. My system suits my ears perfectly. I enjoy many other systems I listen to. Less refined and less expensive to those that cost wise way out pace mine. That being said at the end of the day all that matters is do you enjoy what you have and does. It leave you feel fulfilled musically.

I like what Corey Greenberg said in  a Sterophile review many years ago, "Hi-Fi is really Mi-Fi."

isellgoodgear  My system’s based the unique and astonishing Audiopax amp with timbre lock.

From A’pax videos below, I see what t-lock sounds like. It seems much reverberation/resonance is removed. The soundstage seems shallow (no depth). Just my impression. Alex/WTA

OK, here’s a thought for all those people who complain about the YT quality due to their compression and what not.

Make a good video of your system and download it so that you can play it back as is.

Then send it off to YT.

Put both on your system and using near-field monitoring, listen back and forth and describe any differences you hear, and how bad is it..., really.
