High grade tube pre with digital display

I am using a Modwright 36.5 LS/PS and am very happy with it. However, I am reconfiguring my system and will end up using the same DAC (PS Audio perfectwave) for my MCH and 2 channel system, using a processor in the chain that sits before my DAC. So I basically need to use the same input on a preamp at unity gain (for multi channel mode), and to control volume in stereo mode. This is easy to do but requires a step attenuator and digital display to read the volume level setting. The Modwright cannot do this, so I need to change pramps. What top notch preamps at or above the level of the Modwright are the main contenders? I need fully balanced, and remote control. Preferably not a space heater. I am aware of:

Audio Research Ref 5
BAT (Rex or 52)
VTL 7.5 or 6.5
Purity Audio

Any others I should consider? Any comments on the relative quality of these contenders, considering the Modwright as my "baseline" performance level.

Probably not much help to you but I have the BAT VK-51SE and am extremely happy with it(so I would imagine the 52 is even better). It's been a rock solid performer since I've had it for the last couple of years. I'm sure the others you mention are excellent as well but I have to be honest and admit that I have not had the chance to give them a listen yet.
I'm not sure it's the equal of all that have been suggested but it fits your bill: Aesthetix Calypso Signature.
