Help with church system...

Thanks for all the posts - I will find out all the equipment used and post more info as requested.

We have to sit through a service with abraisive sound of low-fi that gives us head-ach, and generally puts us in a bad mood for the service.

It would be great if we could get it to sound even mid-fi level - like a parasound amp for example.

The speakers are ok I think - they are British made 15 incher. They are hung on the top of our ceiling that is about 30 ft high. It is a big place.

The amps are something like inexpensive Crown or something of that quality.

So, digital amp is not the way to go?

Our budget is not bad - we are willing to do what we must, to make it better.

Our mics are pretty good - they are $1000 AKG.

Fiscally I don't know how responsible this would be, but have you considered active speakers?

Efficiency of speakers?
Guage of cable?
Approx. size of space?

Then you will know what you need. Check out the BagEnd Pro line of horn loaded loudspeakers. If too $$$ then look at JBL Pro (not home audio) speakers.

I strongly suggest you do some reading on sound reinforcement. This isn`t an equipment or cable issue. It`s an acoustics problem that might respond to judicious EQ. or different or additional spkr. placement.

In addition to loontoons questions: How do nonamplified sources such as the choir or piano sound? This may give you an idea of the current acoustic characteristics of the space. Unless your equipment is in a very secure location, commercially rated equipment may be a better choice in it's ability to take abuse. 50 foot cable runs are short compareed to the 200+ foot runs in our church.

I would suggest getting an outboard EQ for the system so you could adjust the tone of the speakers to your liking.

There is no need to spend a lot of money on hi-end equipment to fix this.

An amp will not give you the smooth luscious liquidity that you seek. I speculate, but the problem is most likely the church's acoustics and loudspeaker placement.

Where is the church, the digital amp isn't the answer. What kind of speakers, where are they located, how high is the church ceiling, and what gauge of cable do you have going to the speakers.

50' is routinely done.

What is your current amp, pre-amp, and source materials.
What mic's are you using, mixing board, eq, etc.

Give me as much info as you have and photo's of the church space help.
