Going back quite a few years when I had a Citation 12. It's a pretty good little amp but a good preamp will help take the edge off a little. I ran a Quintessence preamp with mine. That is a very simple preamp with little signal processing. It worked well back in the day but that was a really long time ago. I would borrow a good preamp and try it out but what you have is doing the job and if you like the sound, you are good to go.
