Boy, if I was fifty years younger, I might have snatched this up, but now it has no place in my life.
Got $35 and want a neat amp?
Here’s an amazing little, 50wch stereo / 100wch mono KIT amplifier that is easy to build and sounds amazing! Made a little YouTube about it...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB-QQ6cktWk
This amp looks similar to some of these Wondom Sure amplifiers with the same chip. I have mixed feelings. The amp works fine. Unfortunately I bought a model with the less powerful Tripath TA2024 chip with only 10W. The unit cost 40€, but I had to add another 45€ for the external power supply & shipping fees. So it's more like an 85€ amplifier. There are other similarily priced units with more powerful TDA7492 or TPA3116 chips. You'll get close to 50W of power which seems like plenty. Sonically, the tripath amp is surprisingly clear. However, I'm lacking bass and dynamics. Perhaps the lack of power explains this? I don't want to buy more class D amplifiers to find out. At this point you may as well spend close to 100€ and buy something like an SMSL AO100 or Aiyima A07 amplifier with an included power supply. I'm surprised you like the mini amp over your NAD amp. I have an opposite experience. I recently thrifted a Continental Edison PA 9109 (with a measly 20W of AB amplification) for 40€ out of curiosity and because I wanted more power over my Tripath amp. And surely enough, the dusty 40 year old Continental Edison AB amp sounds punchier and fuller. Perhaps my full range driver transmission line speakers benefit from a lower damping factor? I'm just speculating. Anyways, my local area is full of old AB amplifiers 200€ and under. You can build a decent system under 200€ with old parts. |
I bought one of these last year based on the review at Audio Science Review....Used it for a week and it was just plain horrible sounding. Maybe the one I received was bad.....It went back....
So am I!....Not a matter of liking it better, it easily sounds better with thos Sony speakers. Not even close! This is my second adventure with Class D. I built an ICE Module Class D amp last year also.....Great little amplifier for around $300 USD.... http://rvbprecision.com/stereo/ice-power-amplifier-build.html |
