Future proof DVDA/DVD/CD/CDR player.

Does one exist? Is anything in the works?

A future proof player is a ways off. Might even be a unicorn. Perhaps once we do have a universal player, they will pull the carrot away yet again. Multichannel will then be the next gimmick. This whole thing may be evolve into something like automobiles. They seem to never let me order the packages I want together(this engine with that transmission, or you cannot get this radio unless you buy leather seats, etc). Then, when it looks like it is one year away, that model gets replaced. Starting the whole process over again.
Try the new Pioneer DV-38A. Does not play SACDs, but does DVD Audio, DVD, CD, CDR & CDRW, according to what I've heard.
Turntable, tube preamp, tube amp, and dynamic speakers. It will never go out of date.
I bought the Proceed MDT. This is a completely modular cd/dvd transport. It is software upgradeable through internet downloads and has a small card cage with user replaceable plug in hw cards. It also has replaceable laser module, supposedly to allow future upgrades in case that standard changes. The question to ask is whether it makes economic sense. Could you just keep buying the new stuff as it comes out?
What was future proof 10yrs ago? 5yrs ago? 2yrs ago? The future is NEVER future proof. Nothing is future proof. Not even oursleves!!!
Your forgot SACD, the highest quality digital format, and DTS, the highest quality DVD-Video format.

The closest is the Pioneer DV-AX10. It is currently the only DVD-audio and SACD player. It lists for $4500.

You can also buy the Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD player ($1500 list) and get a Panasonic A7 or Technics A-10 for an additional $400 mail order. You would have it all for well under $2,000.
