One of the best is Juliette Greco. "The Original Recordings - CD Story" on Universal #5428442 is not only musically superb, the booklet has great photos and information. The performances are from the mid 50's to the mid 60's. For contempory singers try Keren Ann a jazzy, bulesy, some what hip sound. The new album on Blue Note titled "Nolita" is a good place to start. Both artists have interesting websites. And if you can find Jacqueline Francois's "Mademoiselle de Paris" from 1948, either the LP or on CD, snap it up! It is one of the great classic French albums. For Pop, don't pass up Lara Fabian. She truly is excellent, and so too are many of the recordings. She has offerings in 3 other languages as well, including English. Lara is huge in Europe, and is deserving of the accolades. She's pretty easy on the eyes too. Check out http://www.laraetmoi.com for more. |
In reference to my previous post, there is a better link to sample Lara's music. The link will direct you to 13 videos from a PBS special, and require Windows Media Player software. There are selections in English, Italian, French, and I believe one is Spanish. I am especially fond of "Adagio". Anyhow, I hope these are to your liking. Miss Kittin and the album "I com" do a great version of 3ème Sexe, sung in French. A very delicate and melodic pop song from a real popular techno singer. You can sample it here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00022XE2M/ref=pd_sim_music_1/002-7716851-1189634?v=glance&s=music |
