First system, bought Yamaha AS-1200, wondering about what DAC to pair it with ?
So i bought the Yamaha AS-1200 brand new yesterday, they had it for 2000 euros with extended 5 years warranty. After having a look at the internals, measurments and a few reviews i decided to buy it, i basically could not do much better for 2K. They also had the m6si for 2000 brand new instead of 2800 but the internals of that amp look super cheap, low capacitance and low quality capacitors.
Anyway, i'm looking for people who own this amp or it's bigger brother the AS-2200, and have found a DAC that goes well with it, i love tube dacs and R2R ladder dacs ! also if you are wondering, i'm pairing it with dynaudio evoke 30 or proac d8.
Also, i'm planning to add a tube preamp in the future like the sparkos gemini, if you have any suggestions about a tube preamp that you think would be as good as the sparkos gemini i'd be glad to hear it !

@onhwy61 well because the AS-1200 is an analog integrated amp, so it doesn't have a DAC stage onboard |
You can save yourself some $$$ with this Musician Pegasus R2R DAC, and the seller takes returns so low risk to try. I own it and it has both transparency and musicality that’s rare at this price, and you can switch between NOS and oversampling modes, which is a nice option to have for some recordings although I listen mostly in NOS. Add a DDC like the Musician Pisces or Denafrips Iris (that I bought used and use the i2S connection) down the road and you’ll get a big performance boost on the level of a significant DAC upgrade for relatively little $$$. Also linked a review fyi. Best of luck. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335813249160 https://soundnews.net/sources/dacs/musician-audio-pegasus-r2r-dac-review/ |
An R2R DAC is basically one sound. If you are confident about that, fine. Otherwise, consider the RME ADI-FS 2 DAC. It is a very good chip-based DAC; it does have a NOS filter setting; and most important, it has a 5-band parametric equalizer. The equalizer is great when you want to boost the lower mids, or bend the treble, or ... And if that is not quite to your liking, you can put a preamp in the signal path.
