I prefer up sampling CD's to DSD with my SA-50. There is mostly subtle differences but in my system I could finally discern some quick transients that I could never quite figure what the sounds were (two quick piano notes). To me it is more fluid and 3D, less glare. The FIR or S-DLY filters are not used when going to DSD.
filter set up in esoteric sa-50
Hope this is right place for the discussion, with my esoteric sa-50, I get what upsampling does, in x2 and x4, and also FIR filter makes the sound richer(for me more engaging), and the other more resoluted, but what about DSD?
I know it's down to personal taste but with some CDs i have hard time distinguishing the difference between x4 upsampling and DSD, with some CDs, DSD makes the sound more 3D, What is the real effect DSD does to the sound? And what filter do you use for what kind of music? i.e i generally use FIR filter mostly for Jazz and upbeat stuff.
