I would imagine that anyone with the new Mini Khan Plus is either too busy enjoying them now to find the time to write about them, or maybe they are hurriedly trying to finish their tax return forms. |
I'm actually waiting for some feed-back on this cord also. I'm interested in some Elrods for my front-end but their inflexibility leaves me looking for other options. The mini-khan seems flexible and a real alternative. I would love to hear some opinion on this as well. |

Hi. can´t tell you much about previous EG designs. I had an EG Mini Khan Plus connected to my Jeff Rowland C II integrated for several month - wow, great results much better then the other stuff around. But after replacing this one with the EG Ultra Khan Statement Rev. / Revel. WOWWWWWW - This is the best pc I heard so far and by far the best I ever had in my system. Now use the Mini Khan Plus on my cdp with great results too. Hope this helps. |
I have 2 of these, one on my EMM DCC2 for a few months (using DAC & preamp functions) & another on a Stax 007t tubed headphone amp for 2 months. The Mini Khan Plus works very well on the DCC2: light & airy, but still smooth with good bass weight, but never thick or forward. When I tried it on my EMM-Phillips transport, there was a little too much air, so I went back to my TG Audio SLVR on the transport, which was not as airy but had more substance. I think the TG SLVR complemented the MiniKhan, & the 2 worked well together.
I now have the 2nd one on my Stax 007t amp, where it works very well, with all the air noted above, but also provides a very nimble, articulate bass, but not any deeper bass than other cords; it also removed some tizziness & grain from the 007t/Omega system that I experienced with other cords. Mids are smoother but not fuller. It works really well with the Kubala-Sosna Emotion ICs I use on the Stax (coming from an Accuphase DP75V cdp).
My main impression is one of speed & detail & air & openness & soundstage depth. Musical elements are better positioned. It does not add weight or fullness or thickness.

Beyond Rgs92, another A'goner has highly recommended that I consider the MiniKhans for my own emmLabs CDSD/DCC2. (I will keep his identity quiet, but hopefully he may answer in the next few days)...

I have tried many excellent P/Cs on The DCC2, which worked exceptionally well on other source equipment, but the Min-Khan opened up the soundstage and added such a significant amount of detail and bloom around instruments and had a palpable effect on the detail and air around woods and strings in particular, with the DCC2. It was clearly the best P/C i have tried with the DCC2 and was as good as the more highly priced Electraglides in my system. It was as noticeable and superior an addition to my system as any other i/c or s/c that I have tried. Whereas the i/c differences were more in hf smoothness and background darkness, the Mini-Khan added a dimension of bloom and 3-dimensionality, particularly to orchestral works. |
Tangentially here, I liked the supplied Kimber PK14 on the EMM CDSD, so I picked up a Kimber PK10 Palladium for it,
and it works very well--more detailed, clearer, & deeper bass; fuller, more palpable midrange; smoother, more rounded vocals, and generally more relaxed. Be warned that the large, heavy 8-inch cylinder on the Palladium can make placement difficult (otherwise, the cord is very flexible). (I tied the cylinder to a piece of wire & hung it from the back of my rack; this arrangement works well.) |
Rgs92, That is interesting that you preferred the Kimber on the CDSD. Did you try using Mini Khan's on both the CDSD + DCC2 together ?
Did either Rgs92 or Springbok10 ever compare the MiniKhan's to the Harmonix Studio Master X-DC (similar price used), as it has been also highly recommended with the emmLabs. What about comparison of MiniKhan to Anaconda Vx ??? |
No, I did not like the MiniKhan on the CDSD (I tried it finally to experiment). For some reason, the Kimbers worked best, making things smoother, if a trifle less detailed, but somehow very pleasing & clear. I actually have an Anaconda Alpha on my Hydra 8 (from the wall to the Hydra, with the 20 amp IEC connector) that is great (neutral, all the pieces just fall into place with it; expensive though... I could only spring for one.) I would actually be curious to see (hear?) how Anacondas sound on the EMMs. |
Quick update--picked up an Anaconda Alpha for the CDSD. In short, the best yet, mainly a more relaxed sound, but actually more detailed. I think this is a permanent cord for the CDSD. I did some switching around to check the best combo, and still found the MiniKhan best on the DCC2 (for air & smoothness). I also tried out the Kimber PK10 Palladium on both, and still found the above matches better.
So, my final setup is: DCC2 with MiniKhan Plus, CDSD with Anaconda Alpha, and Edge NL12 Amp with Kimber PK10 Palladium (excellent, detailed bass on the amp with the Kimber). (All plugged into Hydra 8 using an Anaconda Alpha to the wall.) |
