Both are Jazz.
1. Kirk Whalum- FOR YOU.
2. Grover Washington Jr- ALL MY TOMORROWS.
Both are just outstanding! |
Can't narrow it down to just 2. |
For demos and "showing off", Steely Dan- AJA and TWO AGAINST NATURE, and Dire Straits- BROTHERS IN ARMS.
For just all time favorites, Kansas-LEFTOVERTURE and Rush- MOVING PICTURES.

Marcus Miller--Silver Rain J.J. Grey--Brighter Days |
Just two is extremely difficult. Over the years though I'd say: "Will The Circle Be Unbroken II" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is right up there. I can put this album on anytime and just sit and listen. Another all time favorite is "Temptation" by Holly Cole.
The question would be easier if you asked for five. |
OK, Timrhu and all other audiogoners: feel free to list five favorites, or as many as you wish-- the more the merrier! I think that many of us would like to see what others' favorites are! |
Dvorak "New World Symphony," Horenstein/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Chesky CD31.
Chopin, "Piano Sonata No. 3," Hyperion Knight, Wilson Audio WCD-9129.
Both are unfortunately out of print, but the Chesky is offered by various sellers at Amazon.
Great music beautifully performed, and amazing sonics.
Regards, -- Al

1.Anything by Elvis 2.Anything by Cash |
Patricia Barber - Live in Paris Andreas Vollenweider - Book of Roses Genesis - The Lamb Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall Patricia Barber - Cafe Blue
Ok, that's tough because there are so many more and this is off the top of my head. It ought to get things started though! |
Rolling Stones- Hot Rocks. Jamie Cullum- Twentysomething (my reference disc).
(2) CDs is very difficult to decide, this is an opener. Both of my choices are outstanding from track1 to the last track. Keep me posted & Happy Listening! |
So gong with the flow that 2 CD's are hard to come up with...
Cassandra Wilson - Blue Light Till Dawn Tommy Emanuel - Center Stage Ray Brown Trio- Summerwind Ella Fitzgerald - Live in Berlin |
Cripes, I'm not even sure what my favorite genres are. But, here are a few I never get tired of:
Steely Dan. Countdown to Ecstasy Steve Goodman. Words We Can Dance To Christopher Parkening. Parkening Plays Bach Blues Image. Open The David Grisman Quintet Holly Cole. Don't Smoke in Bed Mighty Sam McClain. Give it Up to Love Brahms Op 116-119, Stephen Kovacevich, piano New Grass Revival Friday Night in America Michael Kamen. New York Rock |
Dark side of the moon and dark side of the moon |
Radiohead Pablo Honey and B-52's Cosmic Thing. |
I'll take a bite. First would be Hugh Laurie's "Didn't it Rain". My 2nd is a compilation made by Roger Sanders and sent to me with either my new 10Ds or Magtechs (cant remember), last year. On the CD was some pretty awesome music I had never heard before (Musica Nuda, Steven Strauss) as well as some very obscure perfectly recorded awesome demo tracks. I love it so much, I burned a copy just in case... |
- Dianna Krall - The look of love (XRCD24); Simply amazing, analogue-like sound played on my Vitus cdp! - Tony Bennett - Playing with my friends; this is a garden variety RBCD, but it is one of the best sounding normal rbcd's I own. I think Tony must have recorded the live recording direct to master tape & kept everything very pure and stripped down, hence the sound is intimate like it was supposed to sound. Love it. |
Bruckner, Symphony No. 8, Giulini/Vienna Phil. on DG Mozart Violin Concertos, Grumiuax/Colin Davis/LSO... remaster, DECCA/Universal
Jimi Hendrix, "Are You Experienced" 1997 Remaster Propaganda, "A Secret Wish" remaster
and the Bruckner goes on and on... |
OK, I should answer my own question. My top two would be Bruce Springsteen, "Greatest Hits" and Dire Straits, "On Every Street". Other notables would have to include Traffic, "The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys"; Steve Winwood, "Roll With It"; Fleetwood Mac, "Tusk"; Rush, "Moving Pictures"; Billy Joel,"An Innocent Man"; and Beatles, "Abbey Road"; Dire Straits,"Love Over Gold"; and the last of my top ten, The Who, "Tommy". |
