DUPLEX RECEPTACLES YOUR EXPERIENCE

Greetings ! I just ran a couple of dedicated lines for the audio gear , I am going to use two receptacles per double gang box . I was thinking 0f using some higher end receptacles, Synergystic , Porter . furetech or ? perhaps mixing up two different ones in the same box, I can hook these up daisy chain fashion so it will be a unbroken line from breaker to duplex. I would appreciate any imput regarding your experience and of course some reccomendations

Hospital grade, most audio grade, and commercial/industrial grade outlets should maintain a good grip indefinitely. That is one of the reasons for certain receptacles being designated "hospital grade". They offer a certain level of reliability when it comes to grip. You don't want medical life-support equipment to shut down because a plug slipped out of a receptacle. Many manufacturers' commercial grade receptacles are just as good as their HG offerings, just without latter's spark suppressing contacts.
Only makes sense that receptacles will lose there grip over time and replacing them will make for better sound especially when new ones are installed. I wonder how long they will maintain that grip?
I installed a Furutech GTX-D rhodium. Honestly I just wanted a new outlet when I moved the gear to another room. The change was dramatic as audio-writers say. Couldn't believe it but there it is.
You can read my review on ac outlets here. I have tried most of the outlets on the market over the years and the maestro outlets are the best I have ever tried out in my system...I even tried the new improved Teslaplex SE outlet and the Maestro outlets are a all around better outlet!
Hi, Gbart. You are correct. I misspoke about the Porter Ports being all copper. There is Brass being used as well.

One of the big selling points of the Porter Ports is the lack of tin plating in the Hubble Receptacle. I had the 4 Porter Ports install for a year before I installed the Oyaide R 1.

I only purchased 2 Oyaide R 1's. I decided to remove the Porter Ports from the wall and use only R 1'S.

So I change out the two double gang Porter Port boxes to single gang boxes with the Oyaide R 1 outlets.

I wanted to keep the R 1's on my main dedicated lines.

I thought of buying 2 more Oyaide R 1's, but when I added the extra Porter Port Receptacle I had on hand, by way of a power strip. It added just what I needed. So left it alone.
Jejaudio, why not also use the R-1 in your DIY power strip ? I'm sure the Porter Ports are fine sounding receptacles, but are they really "all copper" ? Pure copper is too soft to be used for recepetacle contacts. That is why the Oyaide R-1 uses beryllium copper. At the $36 price, the Porter Ports have to be unplated brass or phosphor bronze. Beryllium copper would be much more expensive.
Hi, Lezdam. I use Oyaide R 1 Receptacles for my 10 awg dedicated lines.

The sound was good, but always seemed a little thin. It was more opened, with better dynamics and a wider sound stage.

It was not until I made a DIY power strip along the line of a VH Audio Hot-Box, using the Porter Port Receptacle that I achieved the fullness that was missing.

The good thing is the strengths of the Oyaide R 1 remained with the wider sound stage and dynamics. But the all copper Porter Port is great at bring out low level details and fullness.

So these two Receptacles complement each other greatly in my system.
I also have dedicated lines and use a Shunyata RZ1(?) receptacle on one and a Hubble hospital grade on the other.

On a whim I replaced the single plug(not duplex) Hubble with an old FIM, blue duplex.

What a difference.
More of all the good stuff.

I always knew better receptacles made a difference, but I was not prepared for as much of an improvement the FIM duplex made.

There was nothing wrong with the single Hubble receptacle, it was tight fitting, but the FIM duplex just added more depth and front to back image and seemed more like a component or wire upgrade.

I suggest trying several different receptacles, until you find the one that does more than the others.
I as well ran dedicated line and used hubble hospital grade duplex receptacles. Better grip on the plug was my excuse.
I have 2 dedicated 20 amp lines for my system. There are 2 sets of duplex outlets per box. I was using Hubble hospital grade outlets I had bought from a local electrical supply store and thought everything was good. On a whim, I bought 4 Shunyata duplex outlets and I was amazed at the difference. The entire system sounded clearer. I was so impressed, I went with all Shunyata power cords, a Hydra and Guardian power conditioner. It was the finishing pieces to a great sounding system. Money well spent.

****DEALER DISCLAIMER******

I always like to use an upgrade from standard outlets for good measure and a better grip on the power cable.

Generally I do not expect reveletory changes in performance from a duplex upgrade.

I recently replaced a mid level outlet which shall remain nameless in my reference system with the Furutech GTX combo including the wall plate, GTX-D (g) outlet and carbon fiber outlet cover and there was definately an audible improvement incl improvement in tone colors, vividness and blacker background.

Going forward when designing reference systems for myself or clients, they will always include the Furutech GTX-D with wall plate.
I use Oyaide R1 and am a sceptic all the way.....but they really do work. Hate the Dark Arts of all this. Blacker background, bit more open.
I use a Synergistic Teslaplex and a PS Audio Power Port. Unlike some other folks, I did not notice much of an audible improvement with high grade outlets. Still, I kept them for peace of mind.

One thing I like about both the Teslaplex and the Power Port is that they have a very firm grip, which is useful with heavy power cords.
