Do Macs support wndows media player 11

My Mac is currently running Windows Media Player V9. Have no idea how this may differ from the Win version.

Microsoft has officially halted development of its Windows Media Player for the Mac and plans no future Apple Computer versions of its music-playing software.

"We have no plans to provide future updates or product support for Windows Media Player for Mac," Adam Anderson, Microsoft public relations manager, said in an interview Thursday.

Version 9 is the last version available for the Mac, but perhaps there is software that can convert your files to FLAC or AppleLossless.

If so, I think you'll be very happy with the Mac. And really, do you think Bill Gates needs any more of your (or anyone else's) money??

What format was the music ripped? Mp3, wave..

Flip4mac makes a WMV player for OS/X but the universal binary version is still in beta.

Actually, if you buy one of the new Intel Macs, you could run Windows either through "Boot Camp" or virtually through Parallels Virtualization software and keep using WMP 11. (but why?)

I think iTunes will do the job for you. Why not download the PC version and check it out? If iTunes PC will handle your RIP'd files, you should have no problem with iTunes on the Mac. If you do have a problem reading the files, there are conversion utilities (freeware) that will do the job.

I ripped the cd's to windows Media Player lossless. Is it worth converting to apple lossless (time wise) or would it be easier to rip them again when I get the new Mac? I want to get the best sound quality I can. I've ripped at least 500 cd's. Either way I guess it will be time consuming.

Most conversion software will let tag many files at once and do the work while you are doing something else. I let iTunes do my files while I was at work.

Don't even bother using the Mac version of Windows Media Player, it's not very good. Try Flip4Mac, which is free, and allows you to play WMV in Quicktime. I'm not sure if it plays windows media 11 files, but it'll handle everything you download off the web.

Regardless, iTunes is so much better than WMP that I would recommend getting your tunes into Apple Lossless someway or another. From iTunes, you can then convert them into any bitrate mp3 or aac you want.
