Disagreements and Conflicts between Audiophiles have we lost our brotherhood and maturity?

I looked back over my posts and even my audio business dealings over the last 5 years and it seems like we have lost our ability to peacefully disagree or resolve disputes like grown men. Some of my best friends in this life are audiophiles and I enjoy the gear, the music and the brotherhood. I don’t enjoy the senseless spats. The inability to resolve conflicts and the people trying to destroy peoples business and reputations. Thoughts?

@squared80 im glad you are smarter than the rest of us.  My ears have been lying to me for 20 years. Copper, silver , plugs , finishing , quality of materials and shielding don’t matter. We should listen to cables hear what we hear then just call you.  You will tell us the truth about our lying ears.  Lol ALL IN FUN. Smiles

@mapman @jmera it used to be balanced and organic.  Now experts pop up out of no where.

@gkelly im at a point where it’s not worth it.  The hobby is a place of happiness for me.  If I sell something I want people to be happy. I even let the try it first. Man I enjoy the music and chasing the live music sound that makes me happy.  I,don’t care for the arguing.

@whart I agree with you. Things have changed. I started with a 2500 system. My system currently is 90k retail. Which I thought I would never do. But I don’t think it makes me any better than anyone else. It’s a sound signature i chased for years and now I caught it. I’m pretty much set for a long time. Some people say that but I’m set. Not putting anymore in. I’m just going to enjoy. I also stay away from guys that are arrogant and take offense to the smallest things. I don’t want to argue with folks like that anymore. I’m sick of the know it alls. I may not agree with you but it doesn’t mean I hate you.

@sls883 I understand that.  I sold someone something once and because I didn’t let them try the speaker cables fast enough they immediately trashed me and product that they really loved just 2 months earlier.  It became personal. Not musical but personal. I didn’t get into this for that. I just wanted people to enjoy the tunes and the brotherhood. But unfortunately, that’s the way it is. This hobby should be happy and stress free. People shouldn’t be know it alls and we should treat each other with respect. Not silly disdain

@baylinor I agree. The internet allows you to be nasty and disrespectful to others. To say things with the finger’s you would never in person.  It’s said. But there is no longer a simple man code of respect. It’s say whatever you want because someone made you mad.

@uncleang I got it discounted.  I sold things.  I flipped gear. I probably paid half that because of all the selling , flipping and trading for work etc.

@2psyop I realized something when my best audio buddy died 6 years ago. It’s just gear. You are gone and it all gets sold at a discount and you better enjoy everything about this hobby while you still here. I choose to limit the arguing with folks. I want joy out of this. Nothing more. Nothing less. Joy and peace.

@curiousjim man I had a customer once was a good dude.  Got mad because I didn’t send him speaker cables to demo fast enough and went off on me. Man he was a good dude till that happened. Started going bad on me on this forum and others.   Man our cables made his system sing. Then he got mad and it all went bad.  Man I’m at a point where I want to help audiophiles.  That’s why I do free cable demos.  I give people opportunities with Infigo cables to try stuff. If they like it cool. If not then cool.   I listen to the music and our systems to make us happy. I’m not here to argue. I’m here to enjoy the tunes and the brotherhood. We just left Southwest Audiofest.  We were playing some blues. Lightnin Hopkins and just having a blast. Telling stories and nodding our heads to the great sound. That’s why I do this!

@immatthewj exactly.  The anonymity of Audiogon gives people, courage they never had in real life to talk crazy to folks.

@mahler123 i get what you saying but the surprising part for me is when it goes way past audio. I guess I’m old school I was never an habitual line stepper and I have seen a gang of habitual line steppers crossing the line when addressing another man. I try to respect people.  Some folks are way out of pocket here.

@oldaudiophile story time. I had a guy on Audiogon fake his identity call the owner of the company I work with. Disparage me etc etc.  Come to find out.  He lied about who he was. He was on his 8th audiophile name after getting kicked off the site 7 times. I did a reverse trace of his catch phrases and figured out he had been suspended 7  times and we would not have known if I wasn’t a lawyer in my professional life and had the ability to catch him.  Dude lied about who he was, his system, where he lived and what he had owned. Just to try to destroy someone he had never met.  We have some sicko’s in this hobby. But I do meet a lot of good people. Like this weekend a made about 5 new audio friends and had a great time at southwest audiofest.

@052rc now you preaching.  Listen I started out cheap as hell. Yup I have taken this high end gear a bit far but on a Friday after a long week it puts me in heaven and I’m glad I have what I have. Some do hate the high end and the fact that some of us spent way too much for nothing in their eyes but some people like cars and houses. I like audio. I like it at the level I’m at. I’m happy and I’m happy for those who didn’t spend as much because it’s up to you to like what you have and be happy. Most of us will never hear each others system.

@052rc i understood it. But at the end of the day. To each his or her own. Enjoy the music and what you have and the way you see things. Wish you all the best take care.

@052rc listen I have no problem with what you said. It’s not that serious. Enjoy the conversation and points of views from others. Happy listening

@mitch2 great advice noted. We have to step away from needless arguments or conflicts.

@agwca you are correct. Most of us are at least 50 and up. Where I’m from you don’t just go around calling folks liars as easy as you breathe air. Before you challenged a man’s word and integrity you thought hard about it.  Nowadays folks call you names like it’s spitting in the ground. No common respect. Just smarty pants fake tough talk!

@squared80 Remember what this thread is about. Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean they are a liar or snake oil dealers. It means they have a different opinion than you. So if you were in person listening to a system and a guy heard different from you. You would just haul off and call him a liar etc on the spot? I think not my friend. I’m just saying. Be who you are in person on the internet too. Happy listening.

@mitch2@kijanki I get it. When someone calls someone a liar just because they disagree with you.  Run from them. I will do that.

Listen everyone. Your audio journey is your audio journey.  I started in this 23 years  ago. I started with a def tech system. I now work in the industry part time.  We just left the Southwest Audiofest 2025 and we Infigo Audio were named one of the best sounding rooms by Audiophile junkie.  Our room was always heavy with traffic and people enjoyed our room. I had the best time. Listening to music and meeting people that were audiophiles from all walks of life. That’s what it’s about.

@roxy @whart

Part of what we are talking about here.  I have had guys try to destroy my character and business over audio opinion disagreements.   I had a guy literally fake everything about himself. Call the owner of the company and make it like I was hurting his business until I busted him in his multiple lies. In addition to that there is the pervasive attitude and bias sometimes against the higher end stuff and folks that own it.  It turns into I’m smarter than you and your equipment is not better than yours you just paid too much like a dummy. Which isn’t the way it actually is. It’s bigger than that.  There is more than just that but people get tired of it. The personal attacks etc from people who actually don’t have a lot of experience sometimes or are dead set on being right and disrespectful

@jayctoy it was great meeting you.  Glad you liked our system.  We received a lot of compliments today. I do this as a passion. I practice law as my profession.  But this hobby is my obsession. I tell people that our gear and cables are special. I’m glad you got to confirm that today. Thanks.
