Counterpoint SA 3.1 vs SA 3000 preamp

Hi,

I want to buy a preamp with a good phono stage. I have been positively impressed by Counterpoint gear in the past. I need to decide to buy between a Counterpoint SA 3.1 or SA 3000.

I read the documentation about the technical difference between the two. However, I'd like to know some opinion about the sonic comparison between the two units.

Can anyone comment on the relative pros/cons of the two preamps?

Thanks

Had a 3.1 for 30 years, took it out of storage and sold it a few years ago. It was known as a good phono stage at a value price. It was clean and neutral, but that’s an old piece of equipment, at a minimum you’ll need to go through it and replace caps etc. It ran hot, wasn’t well made and had legendary problems with the volume and balance pots. IMO there must be a better, newer product available these days without screwing around with these. I would steer clear.
