Conrad Johnson PF2-L to . . . what?

All -

With more time available, I've been experimenting with my hifi.

One of those experiments was a Conrad-Johnson PF2-L that I won on eBay.  In many ways it is the polar opposite of most of the system I had when I bought it, and, as a result, there are things it does MUCH better than my regular preamp, which is an Exposure 3010S2.  The C-J images and stages better, it sounds much airier, and *seems* to offer more extension in the bass and treble.  On the other hand, the Exposure makes it sound confused - the Expo is much better at timing, rhythm, etc., in addition to sounding clearer (for lack of a better term) and more organized.

So the question: What would be a worthwhile jump up from the PF2-L?  Something that would ideally meld the strengths of the two, ideally under about $3k.  Would prefer to stay with SS.

Rest of the system is an Exposure 3010S2 CD player feeding a Naim nDAC/TeddyXPS, power amp is either a Belles 350A Ref or PS Audio M700s, speakers are Monitor Audio Gold GX300s.

Thanks for your thoughts!
