Connection options from Node to Denafrips Iris to Pontus

What cables do you recommend to connect from a Node to a Denafrips Iris to a Denafrips Pontus?  I'll be using XLR's from the Pontus to my preamp.

Davegolf2424,

I just posted this on the other thread that you started, I'll repost it here as well.

"I don't believe you mentioned which Node you have. The Node 2 and Node 2i, do not support USB out.....and the Iris only accepts USB input. The Node 130 (3rd gen) supports USB output, which is what I have.

Input USB into the Iris using a nice cable, you don't need to break the bank. I've used a Supra Excalibur (they sell on eBay) to good results in the past....and it's $130 if I recall.

DEFINITELY I2S from Iris to Pontus II 12th using a really solid HDMI cable, I'm currently using an Audioquest Vodka 48 which I believe is around $450...but be careful of eBay, those may be Chinese fakes. I've also used Supra 2.1 HDMI (which is legit on eBay) and Audioquest Cinnamon 48 as well......better cable will produce better results

I also use XLR out of the Pontus to my preamp, works a treat"

It is true that there is no agree upon standard, but the Pontus does have configurable inputs on it's I2S should there be an incompatibility. I do know that Audioquest 48 cables are compatible

davegolf2424,

Also you could always pop an email to Alvin Chee at Vinshine (I'm assuming that's where you are buying your equipment?), he'll be more than happy to give you some recommendations on good I2S cables for the Iris/Pontus pairing

For a good entry level streamer, that will work with your incoming Denafrips gear: Bluesound Node 130 ($499 new, $300 used), the new Node X ($750 new, $600 used), the Eversolo DMP-A6 ($850....they are in such high demand that you'll not find them used I don't think)

That's a good, better, better option list.....best will cost more.....the Pulse mini looks like a great option if the money is available

I will say that I have had the Node 130 for 2 years, and the with the Iris/Pontus II combo for just less than that. I have not once said to myself that this combo didn't sound good. I have tested (and will upgrade to) an Aurender/Innuous/Lumin at some point, but not running out the door right now to do it....but those units all sound great with the Pontus as well; and I've had 4 different units in to test.

baylinor,

All Node models have a USB port, but it wasn't until the Node 130 that they were activated for USB output. Now for this part I am not 100% on, but Bluesound was supposed to turn on the USB in the 2i via a firmware update....but I have no idea if that ever happened.

davegolf2424,

Best of luck to you.....getting new equipment is always a great time. In the past month I've got two new amplifiers and a set of speakers. My wife says I'm obsessed, and she's a bit agitated.....so I'm taking her on vacation :)

Please let us know how you're getting along, and feel free to drop a note if you need anything. Also remember that Alvin Chee is a great guy, and very generous with his time.....just remember he's in Singapore
