I would expect it to be possible, at least in most cases, to double up the connections without significantly compromising the integrity of the connections between the main speaker cables and the amp terminals. The contact between the sub wires and the amp terminals and/or main speaker cables doesn't have to conduct significant current, so it is much less critical.
Also, if the amp can accept both spades and banana plugs you could use them both, one for each destination.
Yes, you would use the low pass setting on the sub, to filter out frequencies above those you want the sub to reproduce.
