I wanted to let you know that we have a new source of vinyl in town called "Another Part of the Forest". It's located at 1333 Main St downtown and is open Wed thru Sun noon until 10:00pm. The LP's are used and they have a nice variety of classical repertory items. I think Mike (the owner) said that he has about 500 different operas if thats your thing. Theres also some jazz and pop, but I didnt take much time looking through those since thats not my main interest. Enjoy!!

Hey friends. I'm having a good old school 2 channel meeting at my store again. This time I'm bringing Mick Tillman from Dyanduio, Lars from Nordost is flying over from overseas, Costa from Simaudio and Allan for Pro-Ject for a workshop! There will be new products from these guys and some free goodies! Also we have just finished a new addition so our store will look a bit different (better than before!) So 3 rooms total for 2 channel. One room at 22'W x 32"D x 14"H. Save your calenders for November 16th. I'll update about the times and when the food will be served. Just a heads up, I'm going to be posting my Thiel 2.2 speakers on here pretty soon, and I wanted any Cincinnati audiophiles to get first crack at them. I go home for lunch. So I started work on positioning the speakers properly for best sound. These are pretty large. My room just sucks the lower bass right out of the speakers so I am fighting that.

I've had the full Dali treatment for surround sound for the past 2 years and absolutely love it. Helicon 400's in front and the helicon center channel (reconfigured 400) and the wall mounted surrounds (reconfigured 300's). The sound coming out of these relatively small speakers is truly amazing. |

I have some new babies. I brought home a pair of Dali Helicon 800 speakers yesterday. I will be updating the pictures on my system thread shortly. Marc,I had a great time listening with you Bill and Tom.These smaller meetings are really fun and revealing. I was truly amazed by the Dimitri power conditioner. It completely transformed what was already a great system.This is a 'can't live without" kind of piece.
I thought Bill's Dehavilands were extraordinary,with power that I would never expect from a SET.
I look forward to our next "meeting".

Well Hello Everybody hope the summer was good to you all and your family . I see a few of us have had mini meetings - thats good - and I have just had a small one myself. Tom Collins, Ed morris and Bill Sullander were over today , Bill came with his deHavilland GM70 amps and The Running Springs Audio Dmitri power conditioner -DAMN DAMN DAMN that darn power conditioner . That RSA Dmitri made the biggest improvement in My system I have ever heard with any eq. change WOW , we all sat in disbelief and awe at the seeming power increase, deeper solid bass , blacker background , larger soundstage ,dynamics we could find no flaws with it just more musical in every way. We switched amps back and forth a few times and I will have the amps and the RSA Demitri till next Sunday so I will be doing more testing this week but damn that Demitri sounds good real good. Bill also changed the output tube in his amps [ GM 70 tubes ] to a copper plate the best his amps have ever sounded and not by a small margin . I still want to try a solid state amp in my system [ stereo or mono blocks ] bring a bi wire speaker cable along also to see what a good SS amp will sound like . Sim Audio is releasing a new amplifier to replace the I7. The replacement will be the 700i. Also there will be a new DAC / CD Transport. It will be showing on Sim Audio Moons Website soon! |

It is me again,
I could use some help with my Thorens TD-145 table/Rega RB300 arm . . . it has a Doug Olsen designed plinth and I have hard wired Cardas tonearm cable to the rca's recently. Now I can not get it to track properly. I would like to have it professionally set-up using my Benz Ace cartridge because apperently I can not do it on my own:) I am concerned that re-wiring the arm has messed something up. It worked fine (before my upgrade!) with the stock DIN cable from Rega.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was up there about a week ago as well. The Sashas paired with the McIntosh gear was pretty remarkable. A couple of friends have remarked that the Mac gear should not be underestimated. Also the cut of music they picked was well recorded and had some influence on me.
The Sophias with the Naim gear was another story. But in my opinion is was more the room than the gear. One could ponder if the gear is a good match but I noticed the room was exceptionally live and no system would do well in that environment. |
Went by Audible Elegance. Wilson's were great. Great electronics pushing them. |

nstigator: did you listen to the alexandras or sophias or both. i didn't like the sophias with the naim equipment either. as for vinyl, i have bought 2 turntables from them over the course of the last 4 years. not trying to change your mind, just get a little more info. |
Hello I went there last weekend the "Wilsons" sounded terrible, there was no bass for sure and those amps sounded very un dynamic, I listened to take five brubeck and i know it very well it lacked any musicality so I left . That place is very un enligtened for sure.l asked them about a nordost pulsar points they sell and they said they have never heard them and had no idea what they would do in my system. when i was their 3 years ago they were anti analog and told me that a phono cart degrades significantly after 100 hours of play and i should go digital!! |

Also for further reference we would like to hold other audio events in the future. We could do them on the weekend, per recommendation. Most of our vendors (Thiel, Focal, Dynaudio, Sonus Faber and Monitor Audio) would like to come to our store and do a "clinic" sometime. Let me know if there is any interest!

i seem to be posting a lot lately.
today i learned that local audio seller, lou hamilton has relocated to utah. i learned this because i went to audible elegance to listen to the wilson speakers they now carry. let me tell you, they should definitely be heard. they have the alexandras that replaced the watt/puppy series and the smaller sophias. in the big room, the alexandras are driven by mac 300watt tube monos with mac front end. the soundstage is huge and deep, the bass is all there and under total control, it makes you wish you had brought your entire music collection. you can tell its right from the very first note and they are not totally broken in yet. the sophias were in a smaller room hooked up to naim which i didn't feel was a great match for them, but i think they are potentially excellent as well.

Report on the gathering at Hanson:
To Andreas, Troy and the gang at Hanson, thanks. It is obvious that you all have worked very hard to make it a great experience to visit your store. Too often, I think we lose the "fun factor" with this hobby, but I imagine that it would be hard not to enjoy oneself at Hanson. From the attitude and knowledge of the staff to the killer coffee maker to the decor, it was all a blast. All of this before I even mention the listening.
First let me say that if you were not able to come to the meeting, you should get up there and visit. We got to listen to Simaudio and Bryston electronics (they are expecting new Conrad-Johnson gear soon); pro-ject turntables and sumiko cartridges; and speakers - how about Sonus Faber, 2 pairs no less as well as the beautiful Focal Utopia Scalas and the recent Thiel 3.7s. Many folks brought their own music to share and we were able to listen to many speakers back to back. Personally, I was really taken by a pair of the smaller Sonus Fabers driven by a simaudio i-7 integrated amp and believe it or not, the phono was a basic model pro-ject and under $100 sumiko oyster cartridge and very basic phono stage, but that baby sure made music.
The Hanson folks were totally cool with my rearranging their furniture and pushing the speakers around as well until it sounded right for me. They are definitely people that you would want to do business with in my humble opinion.
All totalled, we probably had 10 to a dozen folks come buy and I was so into it that someone said it was after 8, I had to check my watch. This was great all around and the drive from NKy wasn't even that bad and I hate to cross the river, but I would go again in a heartbeat.

How would a Thursday July 23rd Work? I'd say between 5pm-7pm? People could start showing up around 4 though to get a bit more time in the room. I think for this for this first time we could just keep it light. We will have some refreshments and snacks for everyone! Oh, and I forgot to mention for those "digital users" with a blackberry storm or iPhone (or iPhone touch) Bring in your stuff with uncompressed music on it. I'm getting in a new toy from Chord Electronics Ltd. that will be a lot of fun to try out and critique! Fun times ahead! |
